This is one of the most common resolutions made every year, but it can be harder to accomplish if you stubbornly wait until January 1 to get started. Getting active now will not only give you a jump-start on the New Year; it also has some extra benefits that are worth the early effort.
Prevent holiday weight gain
You may have some extra room to indulge on holiday favorites if you are exercising regularly. Physical activity might curb holiday weight gain, reducing the amount of work you have to do once the New Year starts. If you gain 5 or 10 pounds before hitting the gym, you might get discouraged before you even start your resolution.
Avoid the gym rush
Year after year, gyms and fitness centers see a flood of new clients at the start of the year. With a membership beginning in December, you will be able to get comfortable in the gym and start sessions with a physical trainer before the crowd arrives.
Start a healthier routine
Remember that there is no perfect time to start working towards any goal. There will always be a distraction, so don’t let the holidays be your excuse to avoid physical activity. If you establish a healthy routine during the hectic holiday season, it will be much easier to maintain that routine when your schedule slows down in the New Year.
