Nutritional Care Packages
MeMD Guide: How to create a healthy care package
Care packages can serve a valuable dual function. Not only do they provide someone in need with practical items to help them through a rough period, but they can also raise spirits through heartfelt sentiments. Putting together these packages often proves to be as much fun as it is rewarding.
Creating an uplifting care package for someone in need is a wonderful way to give back to your community. Given all the stresses involved with impoverishment, any practical items that can take the edge off – even temporarily – are sure to be appreciated. Consider including a card with a simple and encouraging message can be a good idea, though you may wish to remain anonymous so the recipient does not feel obligated to contact you with a thank you message.
Include a variety of healthy, non-perishable boxed and canned goods when making your package, as food is often paramount to those in need. Select nutritional foods that do not require a can opener or a refrigerator:
- Individual fruit cups
- Nut & dried fruit trail mix
- Low sodium dried meat snack sticks
- Granola or protein bars
- Bottled Water
- Individual popcorn snack bags
Hygiene products such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash and deodorant are also sure to be appreciate. If the recipient of your care packages has children, consider include small toys such as action figurines and or stuffed animals.
